CONFIGURATIONS OF FATELESSNESS

Date
-

The exhibition explores the nature of the concept of fatelessness and its experience and various manifestations in the 20th century through the work of six Hungarian writers and one literary journal: Imre Kertész, Agota Kristof, Antal Szerb, Sándor Márai, Ádám Bodor, György Faludy and the Paris-based Magyar Műhely (Hungarian Workshop).

Through the mosaic of stories and perspectives presented, the exhibition reveals the creative and survival strategies, as well as the ways of interpreting reality, that writers living under the dictatorships of the 20th century developed in order to process the collective traumas of their recent past and present. Using the motif of travel as a central thread, the exhibition explores the extent to which we are able to choose our own fate, and where the boundaries of action and individual choice lie
