Nineteen cities in Europe through the eyes of Barna Burger, and nineteen excerpts from the pens of the photographer's friends. The promise of a secret – Unwritten postcards, the last work of photographer Barna Burger, who died in 2017, is composed of dialogues between the photos and the short stories written to accompany them, the kaleidoscopic play between the moments captured in the pictures and the fragments of language.
This exhibition celebrates the 20th anniversary of Hungary joining the European Union. Although the texts picture travellers as aliens and cognition as having a fragmentary nature, Barna Burger tames this strangeness through the pictures: these not-so-distant places appear in his photos as parts of our common culture and memory.
